Patch 7.55: Trail to the Heavens

Everything live in the 7.5 cycle right now (through Patch 7.55). Current as of this build.

7.5: Trail to the Heavens (Part 1)

Story

Part 1 of the two-part patch-story conclusion. The current MSQ cliff-edge.

What it is & where to start — 7.5: Trail to the Heavens (Part 1)

This is Patch 7.5's main scenario, “Trail to the Heavens.” It's the first half of a two-part finale for the current arc. Part two lands in 7.56.

If you're here for the story, do this first. It's the newest chapter, and most current-patch content only opens up once you've pushed the MSQ. We keep the details vague on purpose. Go play it.

Where to start

Open your journal and follow the main scenario marker. It picks up where the 7.4 patches left off.

Echoes of Vana'diel (Windurst: The Third Walk) · i760

Combat

The finale of the XI-crossover alliance raid. Weekly gear, and it wraps the series.

What it is & where to start — Echoes of Vana'diel (Windurst: The Third Walk)

The final chapter of Echoes of Vana'diel, the 24-player alliance raid that crosses over with Final Fantasy XI. Windurst: The Third Walk closes out the series.

It's worth doing. The gear is a free weekly bump, it stays in the Alliance Raid roulette forever, and if you played XI the nostalgia lands. Low effort, good payoff.

Where to start

Clear the first two chapters (Jeuno, then San d'Oria). After that it's in Duty Finder under Alliance Raids, and the Alliance Raid roulette will hand it to you.

Clyteum (dungeon) · i770

Combat

One of the current Expert roulette dungeons. Live-patch gear and capped tomes.

What it is & where to start — Clyteum (dungeon)

The Patch 7.5 dungeon, part of the current Expert roulette. It drops live gear.

If you're gearing, run it. The Expert roulette is a steady trickle of gear and capped tomestones. If you're just here for the story, you'll clear it once and move on.

Where to start

There's no separate unlock. You run it during the 7.5 MSQ, and it joins your Expert roulette afterward.

Extreme trial: The Unmaking · i770

Combat

The current Extreme. Mount and weapon glam, and on-content for once.

What it is & where to start — Extreme trial: The Unmaking

The current Extreme trial, added in 7.5. Extremes are single-boss fights one step below Savage. They're the usual on-ramp to high-end combat, and this one drops a weapon and a mount.

Worth it if you like a tough fight or you want the glam. It's on-content right now, so people are actively running it. If you're catching up on the story, leave it for later.

Where to start

Clear the story version during the 7.5 MSQ, then talk to the Wandering Minstrel in Tuliyollal (X:11.2, Y:14.7) to pick up “How the West Was Sung.”

Dancing Mad (Ultimate)

Combat

The newest Ultimate. Clear Heavyweight Savage first. This is the top of the mountain.

What it is & where to start — Dancing Mad (Ultimate)

The seventh Ultimate raid, added in 7.51. Ultimates are the hardest content in the game: hours-long, unforgiving fights built for a coordinated static.

Only worth your time if high-end raiding is the point for you, and only after you've cleared the current Savage tier. That's the assumed floor. For everyone else it's a spectator sport you can skip with a clear conscience. Nothing gates behind it.

It's the current capstone. If you're catching up, it's dead last on the list.

Where to start

Clear AAC Heavyweight M4 (Savage), then talk to the Wandering Minstrel in Tuliyollal (X:11.1, Y:14.6) to unlock it.

Cosmic Exploration: Auxesia

Crafting & Gathering

The current Cosmic Exploration planet, and the live crafter and gatherer endgame.

What it is & where to start — Cosmic Exploration: Auxesia

Cosmic Exploration is Dawntrail's crafting and gathering lifestyle content. It's relaxed, cooperative, and server-wide: everyone chips in to develop a planet. Auxesia is the fourth and final zone, added in 7.51, closing out the line that started with Sinus Ardorum.

If you craft or gather, this is your endgame, and it's how you build the Cosmic Tools relic. If you only fight things, you can skip it without missing anything you need.

Where to start

In Oizys (X:17.2, Y:22.8), pick up “The Forests of Paradise” from Searchingway. You'll need the quest “Memory's Orbit” done first, plus a crafter or gatherer at level 10 or higher.

Cosmic Tools: Stars (relic)

Collecting

Auxesia adds the Expert tier, taking Hyper tools into Stars. This is the live Cosmic Tools endpoint.

Occult Crescent: North Horn

Exploration

The second Occult Crescent zone is live. Finish Mysteries Abide, then enter from Phantom Village. Parties hold one to eight players, Party Finder is disabled inside, and each player gets 180 minutes from entry.

What it is & where to start — Occult Crescent: North Horn

North Horn is the second Occult Crescent field zone. Parties run from one to eight players inside a larger shared instance, Party Finder is disabled once you're in, and each player's timer starts at 180 minutes.

Go if you liked South Horn or want The Forked Tower: Magic. It's live side content, not an MSQ gate, so story-only returners can leave it until later.

Where to start

Finish “Mysteries Abide,” then use the entrance in Phantom Village (X:4.5, Y:6.6). The North Horn unlock quest and NPC aren't documented yet, so don't chase a guessed pin.

The Forked Tower: Magic

Exploration

Unlike The Forked Tower: Blood, this one is normal difficulty and built for random groups. It flexes from one to 48 players. Stand on the aetherial node to register; if the random draw misses you, your next try gets priority.

What it is & where to start — The Forked Tower: Magic

Magic is the accessible Forked Tower. Unlike Blood, it's normal difficulty and built for random groups, with flexible entry from one to 48 players.

Bother with this one if you wanted the field-operation spectacle without organizing a full alliance. Oversubscribed entries are random, but missing the draw gives your next try priority. Loot is personal.

Where to start

Enter The Occult Crescent: North Horn, then stand on the aetherial node when the tower becomes available to register interest. No cipher is needed.

More on the wiki

The Forked Tower: Magic (Extreme)

Exploration

The optional challenge mode. Form at least 12 players across at least three parties outside the Occult Crescent, then enter an extreme-mode North Horn instance. It supports up to 48 players and requires Knowledge Level 40.

What it is & where to start — The Forked Tower: Magic (Extreme)

This is Magic's optional hard mode, built for organized alliances of up to 48. It scratches the same coordination itch as Blood, while normal Magic is the version for random groups.

Do it if large-scale progression raiding is why you're in North Horn. Everyone else should run normal and move on. The loot table isn't documented yet, so don't plan a gear path around it.

Where to start

Form a premade alliance of at least 12 players across at least three parties outside the Occult Crescent. The alliance then enters an extreme-mode North Horn instance. You need Knowledge Level 40; no cipher is required.

Phantom Weapons: Eclipticum (i790 relic) · i790

Collecting

The third upgrade, and the step most people will actually be on. Lydirceil in Phantom Village starts it once you hold an Obscurum weapon. Budget a 500,000 gil whetstone plus three crafted items, then 100 each of three Phantom Dispellers from North Horn or the High-level Dungeons, Trials and Normal Raids roulettes, then 1,500 Mathematics per weapon.

What it is & where to start — Phantom Weapons: Eclipticum (i790 relic)

Eclipticum is the i790 third upgrade, and realistically the 7.55 relic step you'll be working on. Three quests: one shopping trip, then a dispeller grind, then a tomestone exchange.

Budget for it. The first quest wants a 500,000 gil whetstone plus three level 100 four-star crafted items off the market board. The second wants 100 each of three Phantom Dispellers, which drop in North Horn but also from the High-level Dungeons, Trials and Normal Raids roulettes, so it ticks along with your usual dailies. Then 1,500 Mathematics per weapon, which is the real cost if you want more than one.

Where to start

Hold an Obscurum weapon, then talk to Lydirceil in Phantom Village to pick up Under No Illusion.

Phantom Weapons: Occultum (i795 relic) · i795

Collecting

The top of the line at i795, one step past Eclipticum. Its own upgrade steps aren't documented yet, so treat Eclipticum as the target you can actually plan around today.

What it is & where to start — Phantom Weapons: Occultum (i795 relic)

Occultum is the i795 top of the Phantom Weapons line, one step past Eclipticum. That puts the relic at the top of the current weapon tier instead of leaving it as a glam-only side grind.

Nobody has documented its upgrade steps yet, so plan around Eclipticum for now and treat this as the thing you finish afterwards. If you just need gear to play current content, tomestones remain the shorter route.

Where to start

Finish Eclipticum first. The exact Occultum upgrade start isn't documented yet, so work the Phantom Weapons line out of Phantom Village and expect it to continue there.

Dawntrail intersocietal quests: Touring Tural and Hero's Day Off

Lifestyle

A two-quest level-100 capstone for Dawntrail's allied societies. There's no new daily reputation grind.

What it is & where to start — Dawntrail intersocietal quests: Touring Tural and Hero's Day Off

Touring Tural and Hero's Day Off are the two-quest capstone for Dawntrail's allied societies. There is no new daily reputation track.

Do it for the society send-off and the cosmetics: Ballroom Etiquette plus the Tradewinds set. Once those two quests are done, you're done. No fresh allowance grind.

Where to start

Finish “Partners in Pel,” then talk to Zelihali in Tuliyollal (X:8.8, Y:13.4) to start “Touring Tural.” “Hero's Day Off” follows.

Six new Dawntrail legendary fish

Lifestyle

All six are folklore-locked. Grab the tomes, but nobody has solved their windows or bait chains yet, so they aren't chartable.

Find the fishing holes on FFXIV Fieldcraft

Hildibrand: Detecting a Lead and Clotted Crime

Story

Two more quests in Dawntrail's Hildibrand case. Finish Meteorites and Meteor-wrongs, then find Hardiboiled in Solution Nine. It's optional comedy with no MSQ stakes.

What it is & where to start — Hildibrand: Detecting a Lead and Clotted Crime

Detecting a Lead and Clotted Crime add two more quests to Dawntrail's Hildibrand case. They're optional comedy, separate from the MSQ and Phantom Weapons.

Do them if you want the Night Stallion mount, Oglop minion, or Pulper of Inquiry orchestrion roll. Otherwise they can wait. Nothing current gates behind them.

Where to start

Finish “Meteorites and Meteor-wrongs,” then talk to Hardiboiled in Solution Nine (X:17.0, Y:18.4) to start “Detecting a Lead.” “Clotted Crime” follows.

Coming soon this cycle

7.56: Trail to the Heavens (Part 2)

Story

Part 2 finishes the patch story. Announced for September, not out yet.

What it is & where to start — 7.56: Trail to the Heavens (Part 2)

Part two of “Trail to the Heavens,” the finale of the Dawntrail story arc. It closes the threads opened in 7.0 and carried through 7.5.

If you're here for the story, this is the one to wait for. We keep the details vague on purpose. Go play it when it's out.

Where to start

Not out yet. It arrives in Patch 7.56 (early September). When it lands, follow the main scenario marker from where 7.5 left off.

Beastmaster (limited job)

Combat

A solo-focused limited job (like Blue Mage). Announced for 7.56.

What it is & where to start — Beastmaster (limited job)

The game's second limited job, after Blue Mage. A melee DPS that captures and summons enemies to fight alongside you, with its own solo challenge content.

Limited jobs are their own sandbox: solo-focused, capped below the current level, and walled off from most group content. Fun to collect and experiment with, not a main-progression job. Pick it up when you want a change of pace.

Where to start

Not out yet. Beastmaster arrives in Patch 7.56. Expect to unlock it much like Blue Mage: a Disciple of War or Magic at level 50, with the 2.0 MSQ finale cleared.
